Dark and desolate hallways, wind blown and dust blasted structures, rusty metal, broken doors and windows -- it is just like moving through a horror movie. Instead it is jut a typical afternoon or weekend for Urban Explorer Photographer Jessica Katharsys exploring ghost towns, abandoned hospitals, and jails in the desert of Nevada.
"There is something profoundly striking about these places that stops me in my tracks. I believe that we are stronger and are capable of surviving more than we could ever possibly know. These places are a testament to that feeling."
Jessica is now offering package tours to explore as a photgrapher or model the various Urbex places she has discovered.
Take a trip out of Las Vegas into the Wild Wild West and visit an abandoned children's and mental health hospital. Both buildings built in the early 1900's and left to decay in the mid-1980's they are now filled with rust and tumbleweeds with walls that have stories to tell of healing and tortured souls.
In the boom bust cycle of the Wild West Nevada has seen many small towns close down and dry up. Now these places are off the beaten path and some not even on a map! We will take a trek out into the desert to my favorite ghost towns and romp through these towns that time has forgotten.
Leave Las Vegas at dusk and drive to an old ghost town to settle in for the night. I recommend that you layer up - days in the desert are warm but the nights are chilly! We will be out until the sunrise peaks over the horizon. Techniques used will be flash and light painting as well as open shutter work to capture the Milky Way.
